Ebara BEST ONE submersible drainage pump

Last updated

The Ebara BEST ONE is a 0.25 kW submersible drainage pump built in AISI 304 stainless steel, for clear water in flooded basements, tanks and reservoirs. It covers 1.2–10.2 m³/h against 1.8–8.3 m of head and passes 10 mm solids. The BEST ONE VOX build swaps in a vortex impeller and passes 20 mm.

Key features

AISI 304 through the wetted path

Pump casing, impeller, casing cover and strainer are all AISI 304 (EN 1.4301). The shaft is AISI 303 (EN 1.4305) with a ceramic-coated sleeve where it runs through the seal.

Two hydraulics, two free passages

BEST ONE runs a semi-open centrifugal impeller and passes 10 mm. BEST ONE VOX runs a vortex impeller and passes 20 mm. You pay for the bigger passage in head.

Mechanical seal in an oversized oil chamber

A ceramic, carbon and NBR mechanical seal on the pump side and an NBR lip seal on the motor side, both running in 40 cc of white mineral oil.

Float switch or vertical magnetic switch

The MA build hangs a conventional float. The MS build uses a compact vertical magnetic switch, which is what you want when the sump is too narrow for a float to swing.

Drains down to 3 mm with the optional base

Ebara's minimum suction system replaces the strainer with a Ø190 mm base. It starts at 10 mm of water and pulls the level down to 3 mm. It fits the BEST ONE M, MA and three-phase builds only.

GS mark from TÜV SÜD

Certificate Z1A 015912 0057 covers the BEST ONE M, MA and MS and the BEST ONE VOX M and MA against the EN 60335 electrical safety standards.

About the Ebara BEST ONE

The Ebara BEST ONE is the small end of Ebara's stainless submersible drainage range. It is a portable, single-stage pump you drop into water and leave to empty it. Ebara puts it on flooded basements, garages and cellars, on emptying tanks and reservoirs, and on feeding garden fountains. It is rated for clear water, and for clean water on the MS build with the magnetic switch.

Read that liquid rating before the solids figure, because the two get confused. A 10 mm free passage means grit, leaf litter and small debris go through the impeller instead of jamming it. It does not make this a sewage pump. Rag will still bind on a semi-open impeller, and there is no cutter here. If what you are emptying carries wipes, fibre or sanitary waste, ask us for a wastewater pump and we will point you at one.

The VOX build is where the trade-off is worth thinking about. Swapping the semi-open impeller for a vortex takes the free passage from 10 mm to 20 mm, which is a real difference in a builder's sump full of site debris. It costs you head: 1.5–6 m instead of 1.8–8.3 m over the same flow range. If you are lifting out of a deep basement, that missing 2.3 m at the top of the curve is the whole job. Pick the VOX for dirty water and a short lift, the standard BEST ONE when you need the head.

Above the BEST ONE sits the BEST 2-5 family, four larger stainless frames that keep the 10 mm passage and between them cover 1.2–21.6 m³/h and heads to 18.4 m. The BEST 2 is the first step up. The BEST ONE is the 0.25 kW domestic and light-duty unit below all of them, so if you are draining a commercial basement rather than a domestic one, start there instead.

The other limit is duty cycle and level. This is a pump for emptying, not for running continuously against a trickle. Ebara's own data book warns against running below 10% of the best efficiency point flow because of the overheating risk, and a float set too tight in a small sump does exactly that: short cycles, hot motor, and a seal that goes early. Give the float room, or specify the magnetic switch and set the levels properly.

How the Ebara BEST ONE works

The BEST ONE draws water in through a stainless strainer at the base, throws it out through the impeller and discharges through a G1¼" nozzle to UNI ISO 228 at the top of the casing. The motor is a submersible dry type, two pole, running at about 2,800 rpm at 50 Hz, rated 0.25 kW in both single-phase and three-phase form. Ebara tests the curves to ISO 9906 Annex A with clean water at 20°C and a kinematic viscosity of 1 cSt.

The seal is the part that decides its life

Between the water and the motor sit two seals with an oil chamber between them. On the pump side there is a mechanical seal with a carbon graphite rotary face running on a ceramic seat, with NBR elastomers. On the motor side there is an NBR lip seal. The chamber between them holds 40 cc of white mineral oil, which lubricates and cools the seal faces.

That arrangement is why the pump survives a duty where the water carries grit. It is also the failure path. Run it dry and the faces lose their lubricating film, and the seal is what you replace. Ebara offers a QQV option that swaps in silicon carbide faces on FPM elastomers if the water is abrasive enough to justify it.

Reading the type key

Ebara's own worked example is BEST ONE VOX M -QQV 110. After the model, VOX marks the vortex version. M is single phase, MA adds a float switch, MS a magnetic switch and MW a magnetic switch for waste water. QQV is the silicon carbide seal option, and the last figure is a special voltage. A pump with no letters after the model is the three-phase build. If you are matching an existing unit, send us that string and the serial number off the nameplate.

Certification

TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH issued GS mark certificate Z1A 015912 0057 to Ebara Pumps Europe S.p.A. for the BEST ONE M, MA and MS and the BEST ONE VOX M and MA. It was tested to EN 60335-1:2012/A15:2021, EN 60335-2-41:2021/A11:2021, EN 62233:2008 and AfPS GS 2019:01 PAK, and the certificate runs to 3 April 2029. The motor is IP68 with class F insulation.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between the Ebara BEST ONE and the BEST ONE VOX?

The impeller. BEST ONE has a semi-open centrifugal impeller and passes 10 mm solids at 1.8–8.3 m of head, while BEST ONE VOX has a vortex impeller, passes 20 mm and reaches 1.5–6 m. Both cover 1.2–10.2 m³/h on a 0.25 kW motor, so take the VOX when the water is dirty and the lift is short.

What flow and head does the Ebara BEST ONE give?

1.2–10.2 m³/h, at 1.8–8.3 m of head on the standard build and 1.5–6 m on the VOX. Ebara measures the curves to ISO 9906 Annex A with clean water at 20°C.

Can the Ebara BEST ONE pump sewage?

No. Ebara rates it for clear water, and the 10 mm free passage only stops grit and small debris jamming the impeller, so rag will still bind on it and there is no cutter. Specify a wastewater pump for anything carrying wipes, fibre or sanitary waste.

How deep can an Ebara BEST ONE be submerged?

5 m with the 10 m power cable, or 2 m with the 5 m cable. The motor is IP68 with class F insulation, and the maximum liquid temperature is +50°C.

How low can the Ebara BEST ONE pump a floor down to?

With the optional minimum suction system fitted in place of the strainer, it starts at 10 mm of water and pulls the level down to 3 mm. That base fits the BEST ONE M, MA and three-phase builds, not the MS and not the VOX.

What size is the discharge on an Ebara BEST ONE?

G1¼" to UNI ISO 228. The pump body, impeller, casing cover and strainer are AISI 304 stainless, and the shaft is AISI 303.

What does MA or MS mean on an Ebara BEST ONE?

They are switch builds, where M is single phase with no switch, MA adds a float switch, MS a compact vertical magnetic switch and MW a magnetic switch for waste water. A designation with no letter after the model is three phase.
