Crane ELRO Series IP and XP Peristaltic Pumps

Crane's stationary hose pumps for abrasive and aggressive process duty, in eight sizes from 15 to 91 mm bore.

The ELRO Series IP and XP are Crane's stationary industrial peristaltic pumps. They cover hose bores from 15 mm to 91 mm, lift 9.5 m dry, and are coded in pressure bands reaching 13 bar. This is the ELRO range you specify when the duty is fixed plant rather than site work, and when pressure matters more than portability.

Pressure bands to 13 bar

Crane codes the range in bands of 0–2, 2–4, 4–6, 6–8, 8–10 and 10–13 bar, so the pump is specified to the duty rather than derated to it.

Eight sizes, 15 to 91 mm bore

IP100 to IP800 covers 15 to 70 mm; XP200 to XP800 covers 35 to 91 mm for higher discharge volume.

ATEX-compliant IP range

The IP range is compliant to 94/9/EC II 2G c IIA T3. The XP range is not, so specify IP where the area is classified.

Low shear on delicate product

Crane rates it lowest for product degradation on viscous, abrasive and shear-sensitive media, because nothing passes a tight clearance.

Six hose compounds

NR, NBR, CSM and EPDM, plus food-grade NR on the IP range and food-grade NBR on the XP range.

The hose is the only wear part

One consumable, no seal and no valve. Budget the hose changes and there is little else to fail.

About the Crane ELRO Series IP and XP

The IP and XP are the fixed-plant end of the ELRO range, and they exist for media that destroy conventional pumps. Crane lists ceramic and porcelain, colour and painting, chemical, breweries, power stations and waste as the industries, which is a list of abrasive slurry and aggressive chemistry.

The two ranges differ in what they optimise. IP is the general industrial pump, with vacuum monitoring and the ATEX-compliant build. XP is the high-discharge-volume version, with feed and return flow as standard and a larger bore at each frame size: XP200 is 35 mm where IP200 is 30 mm, and XP800 is 91 mm where IP800 is 70 mm.

Weight tells you how these are installed. An IP100 is 46 kg and portable in the loose sense. An IP800 is 620 kg and an XP800 is 693 kg. Those are bolted-down machines with a hose change that needs planning and access, which is the honest limitation of the large sizes.

For mobile work, the Series T and Series M are the ranges to look at instead. They give up pressure to gain portability.

How an ELRO IP or XP peristaltic pump works

A shoe mounted on the rotor presses the hose flat against the pump body. As the rotor turns, that occlusion travels along the hose and pushes the trapped volume ahead of it to the discharge. Behind the shoe the reinforced hose springs back to its round bore, and the vacuum this creates draws the next charge in through the suction. That recovery is why the pump self-primes, and why Crane rates it to 9.5 m of dry suction lift with no foot valve or additional accessories.

Each turn moves a fixed volume, so it is positive displacement and flow holds as discharge pressure changes. Nothing rotates in the medium and nothing passes a tight clearance, which is what keeps shear low and stops grit wearing the pump the way it wears an impeller. The IP range adds vacuum monitoring on the hose chamber, so a hose failure is detected rather than discovered.

How does a peristaltic pump work?

What pressure can the ELRO IP and XP reach?
